WiFi Extender Increase Ping

Do you ever experience lag when playing your favorite online game? If so, you may need to improve your WiFi signal. One way to do this is by using a WiFi extender. But does a WiFi extender increase ping? Wifi Extender may or may not increase the ping.

Why Are Wifi Extenders Used?

WiFi extenders are a common solution to poor WiFi coverage. They’re often marketed as providing 5 or more bars of signal, which sounds impressive at first glance.

The reality is it only extends the range between your device and router by about two feet with nothing else changing. ( Read Also How to Connect a Landline Phone to a Wifi Modem or WiFi )

The original connection still relies on just one bar of strength! Plus, these devices aren’t always reliable.

Why WiFi Extender Increase Ping?

When using the WiFi extender, you’ll notice that your packets have to go through an extra step when being sent and received. This may cause a bit more time for each packet because they are waiting in line at some point along their journey before getting delivered properly on another network (the main router).

Anyone connecting directly into either device’s signal band while also utilizing its capabilities- such as having two networks happening simultaneously within proximity. This way all wireless traffic will be impacted by this additional airtime consumption which could lead straightaway towards slower speeds overall.

But this is generally going to be negligible under realistic circumstances. A couple of extra quick hops around your house isn’t much compared with going across town, regionally, or even internationally! The WiFi stuff might add just half a millisecond – which would move the server an extra 25 miles away from you.
